Bulk Seeds That Benefit Farmers AND the Planet

Written by Brent Reck | Jul 13, 2026 9:08:06 PM

Fertilizer costs doubled. They never came back down.

Input expenses keep rising. Commodity markets do what they want. And somewhere in the middle of it, you're supposed to figure out how to stay profitable, without mining your soil in the process.

There's also no shortage of programs promising premiums that disappear when things get hard.

PURIS is a different kind of non-GMO seed company. As one of the only independent U.S. companies that breeds its own non-GMO seeds in-house, PURIS offers proprietary genetics, structured contracts with pricing defined before you plant, and 40+ years of non-GMO breeding behind every variety.

Here's what that actually means for your operation.

What makes PURIS non-GMO seeds different

Most seed varieties are bred for maximum yield under ideal conditions. PURIS genetics are developed for what actually happens in the field: yield stability, disease resistance, and performance under real agronomic pressure.

Bred In-House. Not Adapted From Somewhere Else.

PURIS is one of the few independent U.S. companies that breeds its own non-GMO seeds entirely in-house. The result: genetics designed for North American growing conditions, not adapted from commodity lines developed elsewhere.

Every variety goes through multi-location field trials before commercial release.

Matched to Your Farm, Not a Catalog.

Varieties are selected by region, maturity window, soil type, and production goals. Regional fit isn't assumed. It's tested.

The non-GMO bulk seed lineup

Yellow Field Peas

Peas are one of the most underused tools in a rotation. They fix nitrogen for the following crop, reduce input costs, and open access to premium food-grade markets.

PURIS currently offers six pea varieties (PP-0667, PP-1804, PP-2302, PP-2602, PP-2702, and PP-2802), selected for elevated protein content, strong standability, white mold tolerance, and heat and drought resilience across multiple maturity zones.

Contracted pea acres qualify for Act-of-God protection on verified production shortfalls, so uncontrollable events don't penalize what you couldn't harvest.

Soybeans

PURIS non-GMO soybean varieties range from Relative Maturity 0.9 to 3.4, covering a broad range of growing regions and production systems.

Key traits that separate these from commodity non-GMO options:

  • Advanced SCN resistance beyond PI 88788
  • SDS and white mold tolerance
  • High protein content for food-grade markets

Food-grade soybeans grown under PURIS contracts can access premium markets, with identity-preserved programs offering meaningful price advantages over commodity.

Non-GMO Corn Hybrids

PURIS is one of the few independent seed companies breeding its own non-GMO corn hybrids. Nine hybrids are available (PC 4505 through PC 6404), bred for strong stalk and root systems, standability under stress, and yield stability across variable moisture conditions.

Corn is offered as a seed program (without a production buyback), designed to round out a full non-GMO rotation alongside peas and soybeans.

What the program actually includes

The seed is one part. The program behind it is the other.

Structured Contracts: Pricing Defined Upfront

For eligible pea and soybean acres, pricing, delivery windows, and quality specifications are outlined before planting begins. No guesswork in your revenue planning.

Guaranteed Buyback on Contracted Pea Acres

PURIS purchases contracted yellow pea production at defined terms. Act-of-God protection covers verified production shortfalls. Delivery operates on Buyer's Call, with payment net 30 from delivery.

Financing and Risk Management Options

Financing options tailored to your farm and region are available to help manage upfront seed costs through the growing cycle.

On-Call Agronomy Support

Agronomic support is available by phone and for on-field visits, from variety selection through harvest. When something goes wrong, you have people to call who know your region.

As Brent Reck, PURIS Procurement Manager, puts it: "Our goal is to make sure our farmers are supported. Whatever happens, we're going to be the people there to carry some of their risks on our shoulders."

Is PURIS right for your operation?

The PURIS program is built for commercial U.S. growers farming 50 to 5,000 acres, conventional or certified organic, who want:

  • Structured contracts and defined pricing before planting
  • Premium market access for food-grade crops
  • Reduced input dependency through smarter rotation
  • A seed company that stands behind its genetics in the field

If that describes your operation, there's a PURIS program worth looking at.

Built for your region

PURIS genetics are tested and available across eight U.S. growing regions:

Whether you farm 50 acres or 5,000, conventional or organic, there's a PURIS program built for your operation.

Frequently asked questions

What are bulk seeds?

Bulk seeds are large-volume seed orders for commercial farming operations, typically contracted directly with a seed supplier. PURIS offers proprietary non-GMO yellow field peas, soybeans, and corn through structured contract programs for U.S. growers.

Do peas fix enough nitrogen to make a real difference?

Yes. PURIS growers have documented meaningful nitrogen contributions from pea rotations. One grower found 60 lbs of nitrogen per acre after peas, with the following corn crop projecting 240 bushels per acre. Actual results vary by soil conditions, inoculation, and growing season, but the agronomic impact is well-documented.

What protection do I have if the crop fails?

Eligible contracted pea acres include Act-of-God protection for verified production shortfalls. Uncontrollable events don't penalize growers for what they couldn't harvest.

Does PURIS offer corn with a buyback?

No. Corn is offered as a high-performance seed program, without a production buyback. It's designed to complement pea and soybean rotations where full-rotation non-GMO genetics matter.

Do I have to be organic to work with PURIS?

No. PURIS works with both conventional and certified organic growers, with variety selections and programs available for both systems. Organic transition support is also available.

How does payment work?

Contracts operate on Buyer's Call delivery, completed before the next crop year. Payment is typically net 30 from delivery, with pricing and delivery terms defined prior to planting.

What regions does PURIS serve?

PURIS serves eight U.S. growing regions: Red River Valley, High Plains, Western Cornbelt, Upper Midwest, Southern Plains, Cornbelt, Delta, and San Luis Valley. Regional program availability and variety selection vary by location. Your rep can confirm what's available for your acres.
